Flinders Street Hotel

Townsville, North Queensland

Located in north-eastern Queensland, Townsville is a coastal city in the central section of the Great Barrier Reef. As the largest settlement in North Queensland, it holds a significant number of governmental and community locations.

The Old Bank Hotel is a heritage-listed, two-story building located at 337 – 343 Flinders St, Townsville. The design proposal aims to refurbish this existing structure into a modern hotel.

The ground floor will prioritise the Flinders St edge, transforming the old bank into a versatile tenancy space suitable for various operations. Additionally, the ground floor will feature 11 new hotel suites, with a separate security line independent of the commercial tenancy. Back-of-house operations will generally be kept to the laneway side. Level 1 will be converted into 23 new hotel suites.

The roof has been retrofitted to accommodate future rooftop functions, including the installation of an additional lightweight stair providing direct access to the ground.
