Gununa (Mornington Island), Far North Queensland
Emphasizing environmental sustainability, the design integrates passive cooling strategies and optimized building orientation to harness natural light and ventilation, significantly reducing the development’s ecological impact.
To tackle the inherent challenges of remote construction and material degradation, robust, low-maintenance materials have been selected to withstand the region’s harsh climatic conditions, ensuring long-term durability. Advanced prefabrication techniques streamline the construction process, minimising on-site labor and mitigating the logistical complexities of transporting materials to this remote location.
Building upon the cultural design principles established through extensive consultation by University of Queensland team, CA Architects have crafted housing solutions tailored to the social fabric and living patterns of single men in Gununa. The design acknowledges the unique requirements of single-occupancy and single-parent living while integrating culturally sensitive elements that resonate with the community.
